Bayer Leverkusen climbed to second spot on the Bundesliga league standings through a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in a top-four battle in Tuesday evening’s action.
Leverkusen raced into the lead in the opening 20 minutes courtesy of Moussa Diaby, but the Black and Yellow responded late in the second half through Julian Brandt.
With a draw on the cards, Florian Wirtz denied the visitors back-to-back draws with the winner in the last ten minutes as his side go on to second spot on the table with Dortmund fourth.
Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 Werder Bremen
Borussia Monchengladbach managed to get back on the winning trail in the Bundesliga thanks to a 1-0 success over SV Werder Bremen.
After letting a narrow lead slip at Stuttgart over the weekend, Gladbach ensured maximum points this time around through Nico Elvedi midway in the second half to cement seventh spot.
As for Bremen, who headed into the encounter on a two-match unbeaten run , their plight to climb from the bottom-half of the standings are dealt a blow in the process.
Hertha Berlin 0-3 TSG Hoffenheim
Hertha Berlin’s inconsistent campaign down in the bottom-half of the standings continued following a 2-0 loss against TSG Hoffenheim.
Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek had a chance to give Hertha the lead from the spot early on, but missed as Sebastian Rudy to put the visitors ahead late in the first half.
A brace from Croatian Andre Kramaric in the latter stages of the second stanza ensured victory for the visitors who climbed to 11th spot with Hertha three slots below in 14th spot.
Mainz 0-2 VFL Wolfsburg
Mainz 05 remained second-bottom on the league standings after going down 2-0 to VFL Wolfsburg at the Coface Arena.
Following their impressive 1-1 draw away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, the hosts succumbed to second half strikes from Bartosz Bialek and Wout Weghorst to leave Wolfsburg in fifth spot.
