Jonas Hofmann was the star on the day, as he netted a hat-rick while Thorgan Hazard also got on the score-sheet for the hosts.

Gladbach now sit three points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund after eight matches.

Ondrej Duda put the home side ahead after seven minutes, before Robin Koch netted the equaliser in the 36th minute.

Borussia Dortmund maintained top spot in the Bundesliga after thumping Stuttgart 4-0 at the Mercedes Benz Arena.

Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer were on target in the first half, before Maximilian Philipp rounded off the scoring in the 85th minute.
