Result: Schalke 0-2 Bayern Munich
Date: 22 September 2018
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich maintained their perfect to the season with a 2-0 win over Schalke on Saturday evening.
The visitors got off to the perfect start when Joshua Kimmich rose well to head home James Rodriguez's corner, 0-1.
Robert Lewandowski nearly doubled Bayern's lead in the 24th minute, but Schalke shot-stopper Fahrmann produced a superb save to deny Polish forward from close range.
Schalke did show glimpses of their attacking prowess, but they did not do enough to trouble Bavarians shot-stopper Manuel Neuer throughout the first half.
The champions dominated possession for the remainder of the half, although they lacked a killer instinct in the final third and went into the break leading by the one goal.
The second half sprung into life after the hour-mark when Bayern were awarded a penalty after Rodriguez was brought down. Robert Lewandowski stepped up and made no mistake from close range.
The visitors nearly bagged a third goal in the 77th minute but David Alaba's thumping free-kick was brilliantly tipped away by Fahrmann.
That proved to be the final opening at goal in the second half as Bayern hung for the routine win.
