Result: Hoffenheim 4-1 Bayer Leverkusen
Date: 29 March 2019
Venue: PreZero Arena
Bayer Leverkusen's top-four hopes suffered a setback following a 4-1 loss at the hands of Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Friday evening.
Hoffenheim were in front as early as the 10th minute through a classy finish from Ishak Belfodil following a swift counter-attack.
Seven minutes later, Leverkusen restored parity thanks to Kevin Volland, who nodded home Julian Brandt’s delivery against his former employers.
Leverkusen's quest to take full control of the game was halted after Karim Bellarabi left play for Charles Aranguiz through injury on 26 minutes, before Lars Bender took the place of Mitchell Weiser 10 minutes later in another forced changed.
The visitors' evening turned for the worse when Sven Bender threaded the ball into his own net six minutes of the break to restore Hoffenheim's lead.
Hoffenheim took control from then on, as Belfodil completed his brace on the hour mark with a right-footed strike to take his tally to 11 league goals this season.
With 11 minutes to go, the home side’s advantage increased after a period of pressure, with Andrej Kramaric slamming home the fourth goal to round off an impressive win on the night.
The win sees Hoffenheim move up to eighth place on the table, while Leverkusen drop to seventh spot.
