The visitors had a bright start after Thorgan Hazard fired them ahead in only the eighth minute of the match with a quick finish inside the box after receiving a through ball from Haaland.

Marco Rose's charges were fired up to come back to the game and Ramy Bensebaini came very close to levelling matters in the 22nd minute with a strike that missed wide of the near post from Plea's through ball.

The hosts gained momentum in the closing phase of the first stanza as Plea also came close to equalising with five minutes but his powerful striker was kept out by Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki.

Gladbach had a perfect start in the second stanza, as Lars Stindl levelled matters five minutes inside the second stanza with a close range finish from Plea's cross.

Sancho came very close to adding a third goal for Dortmund in the last 11 minutes with a cushioned strike that cannoned off the post.

Haaland had a glorious chance to deliver a sucker punch in the last four minutes for Dortmund after latching onto a good pass in sight of goal inside the box but he struck his shot over the bar as the encounter finished 2-1, with the visitors moving up to second spot.
