Bayern Munich moved to within five points of Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund after defeating Schalke 3-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night.
Bayern were desperate for a return to winning ways in the league after they went down to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, while Dortmund dropped points earlier in the day.
The hosts got the start they wanted as Schalke defender Jeffrey Bruma deflected the ball into his own net after trying get the ball away from Robert Lewandowski.
Schalke managed to restore parity on 25 minutes, with Ahmed Kutucu calmly slotting beyond Sven Ulreich following a swift counter attack.
Two minutes later, Bayern were ahead once again when James Rodriguez played Lewandowski through on goal and the Polish forward made no mistake from six-yards out.
The third goal arrived 11 minutes into the second half as Lewandowski turned provider to pick out Serge Gnabry, who nodded home from six-yards out.
Bayern continued to push for more goals and they could have had a fourth goal in the 76th minute when Franck Ribery picked out Lewandowski, whose curling effort sailed inches wide of the upright.
That proved to be the final opening of the second half as Bayern got back to winning ways, which sees them sit five points behind Dortmund.
