Bayern Keen On James Stay Amid Real Return

Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on making Real Madrid loanee James Rodriguez's stay with the Bundesliga giants a permanent one.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner is edging closer to the expiration of his stay with the Bavarian giants after penning a two-year loan deal in July 2017.

Bayern have the option of making the former AS Monaco star's stay in Munich a permanent one for a fee of €42 million (R686 million), but that decision will be left to coach Niko Kovac, according to the club's president Uli Hoeness.

In the wake of the left-footed star's return to form in Germany's top flight, the Bayern president has heaped praise on the 27-year-old, hinting at a possible permanent move for the Colombian.

"I'm a fan of James. He's got an unbelievably good left foot and is a world-class star in my opinion," Hoeness told AZ.

"The option we have (to make his loan a permanent transfer) has to be exercised by 15 June, so we still have plenty of time.

"But I have to say, everyone here is happy with him. I assume that James will be at Bayern next season. I'm sure Niko Kovac has a similar view of James' quality and that he's very happy with him. I don't think the two of them have had a problem.

"I've always said that James Rodriguez is an extraordinary player. We needed to ease him in somewhat after his injury, but when he's fit, he plays like he did against Hertha: brilliantly! And that's the best argument for selecting him."

Rodriguez has scored four goals and assisted four further strikes in 16 Bundesliga games for Bavarians thus far this season.
