2019 Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifier
Result: Libya 2-3 Nigeria
Date: 16 October 2018
Venue: Stade Taïeb Mhiri
Nigeria leapfrogged Bafana Bafana into top spot in Group E, after they defeated Libya 3-2 at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri on Tuesday evening.
The Nigerians came into the match looking to move atop, after Bafana Bafana were held to a goalless draw by Seychells earlier in the day.
The Super Eagles got off to the perfect start as Odion Ighalo bagged his fifth goal of the qualifying campaign, turning home a cross from Ahmed Musa in the 14th minute.
It was 2-0 three minutes later, as Ighalo turned provider to pick out Musa who skipped past two challenges before firing into the bottom corner.
The hosts did manage to reduce the deficit after 36 minutes, with Mohammed Zubya heading home from a set-piece.
The Libyans came out firing in the second half and they managed to force Nigerian shot-stopper Francis Uzoho into a couple of good saves in the opening 10 minutes.
Libya's dominance was eventually rewarded in the 73rd minute, when Uzoho's failed attempt to hold onto a cross fell into the path of Ahmad Ben Ali, who fired into the far corner from six-yards out.
However, Nigeria restored their lead with 10 minutes remaining, as Ighalo brilliantly skipped past two players before firing a left-footed effort into the bottom corner.
The Super Eagles hung on to claim all three points which sees them sit top of the Group, a point above Bafana, who they face next month at the FNB Stadium.
