Liverpool vice-captain James Milner was asked a number of questions for his new book called Ask A Footballer in which he discusses a range of topics, including VAR and the 2019/20 title race, and he revealed which opponent had given him the hardest time on the pitch.

Despite having come up against both Messi and Ronaldo during his career, whose respective goalscoring records Milner describes as being “ridiculous”, the 33-year-old revealed that the toughest opponent he had faced was in fact Crystal Palace’s Ivorian winger Wilfried Zaha.

“I’ve been sent off for tackles on him (Zaha) twice,” Milner shared, as reported by The Guardian.

“He’s a talent. Unpredictable. You see how difficult it is to deal with him when you’re watching him. And when you play against Zaha he’s tricky and very tough to face.”

Milner joined Liverpool as a free agent from Manchester City in 2015, and has made 190 for the club since, winning the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup titles in the process.
