Vice-President Of Ghana Reacts To Win Over Bafana

Ghana's vice-president has sent a message to both the Black Stars and Bafana Bafana following their controversial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday night.

Andre Ayew and his teammates advanced to the final round of qualifying for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar after beating Hugo Broos' South Africa 1-0 this past weekend.

The circumstances in which they progressed, however, could be looked at by FIFA and CAF after SAFA issued a statement shortly after the match revealing that they would file a formal complaint due to the seemingly dubious penalty Ghana were awarded.

Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey appeared to make a meal of what appeared to be minimal contact in Bafana's danger area before the referee pointed to the spot without any hesitation.

This has led to uproar from the footballing community worldwide, with it yet to be seen as to whether or not more serious action will be taken from the sport's governing bodies.

In the meantime, Ghana players and supporters continue to celebrate making it to the play-off round, and among them is the country's vice president Mahamudu Bawumia, who, after acknowledging the effort of the Black Stars, felt sympathy for SA.

"Congratulations to the Black Stars for topping Group G to qualify for the World Cup play-offs following a hard-fought victory over South Africa," he said, according to Joy Online.

"Sorry to Bafana Bafana for missing the play-off by a whisker."

What did captain Ayew say after the game?

Speaking to the press following Ghana's win, Al-Sadd winger Ayew caused more controversy by saying that not only was Amartey fouled but that the Black Stars should have been awarded more penalties.

"It was a clear penalty. In fact, we had chances to get more penalties and should have been given two more," he said.

"I think we had more clear chances. Yes, it was a tough game, but we won this game fair and square. We could have scored more."
