FIFA have released the latest world rankings and while there were no movements in the top 10, there were quite a few changes among Africa’s top ranked teams with nine of the 10 highest ranked CAF nations dropping positions, while Bafana Bafana climbed one spot.

Tunisia remained the highest ranked nation on the continent, sitting in 23rd spot, followed by Senegal, who have dropped form 24th into 27th position.

Congo DR, in 39th, and Morocco, in 42nd, both climbed above Egypt, who fell an incredible 13 spots.

Cameroon, into 51st, Ghana, into 54th, and Burkina Faso, into 57th, all dropped out of the top 50 in the world, while Nigeria now sit in 52nd spot, falling down one position.

Algeria completes the 10 strongest African nations in 60th position and FIFA explain the massive drops of African teams due to the fact that games in the recent CHAN tournament only count as friendlies, because it’s not a official FIFA-accredited tournament.

In addition, the devaluation of last year’s CAF African Cup of Nations in calculating points tallies also played a major role.
