Cameroonian Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o says there is no reason to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations, especially after the 2020 UEFA European Championship was played across 11 cities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eleven cities across Europe played host to Euro 2020 in June and July this year, with supporters allowed in the stadiums throughout the entire tournament.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe confirmed this week that the tournament will go ahead as scheduled despite reports in Europe claiming it could be postponed due to concerns about the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, and Eto'o has now echoed his sentiments.
"I do not see a convincing reason to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations, the Euro was played during the pandemic with full stadiums," the Cameroon legend was quoted as saying by Kingfut.
"They played in many cities in Europe, so why shouldn't we play in Cameroon?
"If some think we should postpone the tournament, they need to give a good reason."
The European Club Association also recently wrote to FIFA about threatening not to release players for the tournament if Africa's football governing body did not meet their protocols.
