With an Arsenal and a Chelsea star said to have committed their international futures to Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, reports suggest that another Premier League-based player could follow suit.
Ten Hag's First Big Man Utd Signing Revealed?
Earlier this week, it was reported that Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has chosen to represent the Black Stars ahead of their exploits at the World Cup in Qatar.
The in-form Gunners striker has been enjoying a purple patch, scoring four goals in his past four games for the north London side. The 22-year-old holds the record for the most goals scored for England's U21 team with 16 strikes, but has yet to appear for the Three Lions' senior team.
He is now expected to play for the four-time African champions alongside another London-based star in the form of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Blues academy graduate, who has been making frequent visits to the West African nation in recent months, is reportedly also set to fly the Ghanaian flag at the global showpiece at the end of the year.
According to Pure FM, the two starlets could well be joined by yet another English-born star in Tariq Lamptey.
The Brighton & Hove Albion defender, himself a Chelsea academy graduate, has been monitored by the Ghana Football Association ever since making his Premier League debut for the Blues against Arsenal in early 2020.
The same report suggests that, like Nketiah, the fullback has now acquired his Ghanaian passport, and is eligible to be called up for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.
"Tariq Lamptey's switch is done. He is available now for Ghana and it now depends on the coach if he will invite him for the upcoming games or not. To be honest, I shouldn't be saying this but the switch is done," Coach Freddie told the Kumasi-based radio station, as per GHANAweb.
Ghana will be looking to outdo their performance at the 2010 World Cup when they made the quarter-finals, but will face stiff competition as they will compete with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay, the team that knocked them out in South Africa 12 years ago, in Group H.
