Ex-Al Ahly Star Criticises Tau

Yet another one of Al Ahly's former contingent has expressed his disappointment in South African attacker Percy Tau.

On Sunday, arguably the biggest derby on the African continent took place, with Al Ahly having the opportunity to close the gap between themselves and Egyptian Premier League log leaders Zamalek when the two side locked horns at the Al-Salam Stadium.

Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring for the Red Devils after pouncing on a Mohamed Abdel Ghani mistake to give Al Ahly the lead.

Things would drastically change going into the second half, though, when veteran attacker Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala was brought off the bench for Zamalek.

His introduction sparked a comeback for the reigning champions of Egypt, with the forward providing an assist and scoring in the space of eight minutes to give the Royal Club lead.

However, Al Ahly substitute Salah Mohsen levelled matters with 10 minutes to go as both sides went home with a point from the Cairo Derby.

Tau, who was relatively quiet throughout the game, was substituted off shortly after half-time, and former Al Ahly star Emad Meteb has since criticised the South African for his passive performance against their greatest rivals.

"Some Al Ahly players need to work harder on the pitch, they are talented but they are not doing enough," Egypt's fifth highest goalscorer of all time said, as per KingFut.

"Tau shouldn't have started the game, while Amr El-Sulya, Ahmed Abdelkader, Mohamed Hany, and Mohamed El-Shennawy were all in a bad form.

"Zamalek started the game terribly, Al Ahly could have scored more goals but the players preferred to defend, which backfired."

The man who brought Tau to North Africa, Pitso Mosimane, recently left the head coaching position at the Club of the Century, and having enjoyed relative success under the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager's stewardship, it remains to be seen if the forward will continue his stay with the record African champions come the end of the season.
