Pitso's Al Ahly Extend Winless Run To Four Matches In EPL

Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly extended their winless streak to four matches in the Egyptian Premier League after they were held to a goalless draw by National Bank of Egypt on Wednesday evening.

Egyptian Premier League

Result: National Bank Of Egypt 0-0 Al Ahly

Date: 18 May 2022

Venue: Arab Contractors Stadium

Mosimane made rotated the side that drew with ES Setif and progressed to the final of the CAF Champions League on aggregate, as he recalled Mohamed Sherif to partner with Percy Tau upfront while the likes of Mohamed Magdy Kafsha, Rami Rabia and Ayman Ashraf returned.

National Bank had a bright start as they created a number of chances in the early stages but they were constantly thwarted by the brilliance of goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who kept the Red Devils in the game.

However, Al Ahly waited for their moments and they thought they were ahead on the half-hour mark after Mahmoud Wahid found the back of the net with an effort in the box from a set-piece but the goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The visitors seized the momentum as Sherif came close to breaking the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with a strike in the box from Ahmed Abdelkader's headed pass that was kept out by shot-stopper Mahmoud El Zonfoly in the bottom corner.

The second stanza got off to a frantic start, with both sides creating chances on transitions but lacking the finishing touches.

Mosimane made a change just before the hour-mark, as he brought on Hussein El Shahat in place of Taher Mohamed to stabilise the midfield while moments later Salah Mohsen replaced Sherif for fresh legs upfront.

The game remained on the edge in the closing stages as Ashraf was denied the winner by El Zonfoly nine minutes before time while substitute goalkeeper Aly Lotfy also spared Al Ahly from defeat with a crucial save as he smothered strike by MohamedBassiouny in the dying minutes as the sides shared the spoils.

The Red Devils reduced the gap behind leaders Zamalek to seven points in third spot on the log, although they have four games in hand.
