Al Ahly Put Pressure On Zamalek With Back-To-Back Wins

Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly kept the pressure on Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek after a 2-1 win over Al Masry on Tuesday evening.

Mosimane kept the same side that thrashed ENNPI the last time out, with Kahraba, Mohamed Kafsha and Hussein El Shahat playing behind lone-striker Mohamed Sherif in attack.

Sherif gave the Red Devils an early lead in the 11th minute with a strike from the rebound after his initial shot was saved into his path by goalkeeper Ahmed Daadar.

Ahmed Gomaa came close to pulling the hosts level five minutes later with a header inside the six-yard box that missed narrowly wide after a cross by Ahmed Refaat.

Al Masry kept fashioning chances and were rewarded on the stroke of half-time as Omar Kamal levelled matters with a strike into the bottom corner after getting on the end of headed pass by Amr Moussa.

Mosimane responded by making a double change at half-time, as Aliou Dieng replaced Ahmed Ramadan while Taher Mohamed came on for Kahraba.

The continued to open up coming from the break and Ahmed Shousha came close to giving Al Masry the lead three minutes before the hour-mark with a header from close range that was saved by shot-stopper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Sherif eventually restored the lead for Al Ahly six minutes later after turning home Akram Tawfik's cross to complete his brace.

Mosimane's side were able to hold off on the pressure in the closing stages and held on to a 2-1 win that saw them move three points behind Zamalek with two games in hand.
