Date: 01 June 2019

Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium

Lesotho advanced to the COSAFA Cup semi-finals after defeating Uganda on penalties at the  Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The two nations went with their preferred choices in defence and attack, with a spot in the last four on the line.

Lesotho pushed for an early lead on three minutes through a header from Kenneth Makepe following a corner, but goalkeeper Charles Lukwago parried comfortably.

The Cranes soon sprung to action with back-to-back attempts inside the area on 18 minutes from Michael Birungi, but Lesotho managed to hold out until the halftime break.

With no changes at the break, Lesotho made an identical start to the first with Lukwago and co forced to hold their own.

Both sides turned to their benches on 55 minutes, as Motebang Sera and Jane Thaba-Ntso entered for Lesotho, while Dan Serunkuma made his way onto the park for the Ugandans.

Serunkuma showed his qualities ten minutes after his arrival with a low curler from outside the area, which forced a fine save out of Samuel Khetsekile, who denied the the Ugandan forward once again three minutes later.

Lesotho had the ball in the net with 12 minutes remaining through a header from Sera, but the goal was ruled out by the officials for an offside.

Both nations pushed for a winner in the latter stages of the half, but were unable to carve out a serious opening as the encounter moved to a penalty shoot-out.

Two saves from Khetsekile in the shoot-out with three successful conversions gifted Lesotho victory and a place in the semi-finals for a third year running.
