Beijin Guoan will pay £65 million for Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu, widespread reports suggest.
BBC journalist Gary Al-Smith has revealed the Chinese side have matched Bakambu's release clause of £35 million (R586 million) and are prepared to pay an extra £30 million (R503 million) in tax for the services of the DR Congo striker.
Bakambu's overall fee would be a new record for an African player, beating Mohamed Salah's record transfer from AS Roma to Liverpool, which cost the Reds £39 million (R653 million).
The 26-year-old's transfer would also beat Liverpool's £54 million (R905 million) deal for RB Leipzig's Naby Keita, which will be completed after the current campaign.
In addition, Africa's new most expensive player will earn a whopping £307 000 a week (R5.1 million).
Bakambu joined Villarreal from Bursaspor for just £6.75 million (R113 million) in 2015, and has since scored 47 goals in 105 appearances for the LaLiga side.
