Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly advanced to a third successive CAF Champions League final after securing a 2-2 draw against ES Setif, with Percy Tau playing a starring role.
CAF Champions League
Result: ES Setif v Al Ahly (Al Ahly won 6-2 on aggregate)
Date: 14 May 2022
Venue: Stade du 5 Juillet 1962
Mosimane made only one change to the side that won the first leg 4-0, as Mohamed Abdelmonem was recalled in the heart of defence while Percy Tau was flanked by Ahmed Abdelkader and Taher Mohamed upfront.
The visitors had a perfect start after Ahmed Abdelkader opened the scoring within the first two minutes with a left-footed strike into the bottom corner after combining with Tau.
Setif were subdued after that but they started to get out of their shell as Abderrahim Deghmoum came close to levelling matters in the 23rd minute with a header in the box that could not beat goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
The home side did not look back from there, as Ahmed Kendouci eventually found the equaliser on the stroke of halftime with a strike into the top corner after he was teed up by Akram Djahnit in the box.
Setif had a bright start in the second stanza as they fashioned chances and Riad Benayad gave his side the lead on the hour-mark with a low pile-driver from outside the box that found the bottom corner.
Mosimane reacted by making a double tactical change in the last 22 minutes, as Mohamed Magdi Kafsha replaced Abdelkader to shore up the midfield and Ramy Rabia came on for Hussein El Shahat to reinforce the defence.
Those tactical changes by the South African coach slowed down the attacks from the Algerian side and the Red Devils found a way out of their own half as Mohamed Sherif levelled matters on the night and made it 6-2 on aggregate in stoppage time with a strike in the box after he was teed up by Tau.
Al Ahly will face Wydad Casablanca in the final in Morocco on May 30.
