Still No Tau As Pitso's Al Ahly Run Riot In Champions League

Pitso Mosimane's cruised to the CAF Champions League group stages after thrashing Niger's USGN 6-1 on Saturday evening.

Mosimane made four changes from the 1-1 draw in the first-leg last weekend, as he recalled Akram Tawfik, Badr Banoun, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Walid Soliman.

The hosts were on the front foot in the opening exchanges after Mohamed Sherif gave them the perfect start by grabbing the opener in the eighth minute with a half-volley inside the box.

The Red Devils kept on putting USGN under pressure and were rewarded as Magdy Afsha doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a free header into an empty net after a cross by Kahraba.

However, the visitors pulled a goal back ten minutes before the half-time break, with a strike that found the top corner, as the Nigerien outfit reduced the deficit to 2-1 on the night.

Mosimane's charges gave themselves breathing space again coming from the half-time break, as Afsha displayed individual brilliance to restore their two-goal cushion just before the hour-mark to complete his brace.

Ahly were cruising in the 65th minute as Hussein El-Shahat added a fourth goal after showing composure after going through on goal and rounded the USGN shot-stopper to score into an empty net.

The hosts were running riot, as five minutes later Kahraba also got on the scoresheet with a low strike on the edge of the box to make 5-1 on the night.

Hamdy Fathi completed the rout for the Red Devils in the last three minutes with a strike from outside the box to make 6-1 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate, the defending champions booked their spot in the group stages while USGN will have a second chance in the CAF Confederation Cup play-off round.
