Zimbabwe Suffer Shock Loss In World Cup Qualifier
Somalia 1-0 Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe’s qualification to the group phase of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers hang in the balance after they went down 1-0 to minnows Somalia in the first-leg clash on Thursday evening at Stade du Ville in Djibouti.
The Warriors seemed to have got away with a goalless stalemate towards the end but they conceded a late goal three minutes before time.
They will look to make amends in the second leg scheduled for next week Tuesday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
Seychelles 0-3 Rwanda
Rwanda started their campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Seychelles on Thursday afternoon at Stade Linite.
Muhadjir Hakizimana broke the deadlock for Amavubi in the 31st minute and Yannick Mukunzi gave them a two-goal cushion four minutes later. Meddie Kagere sealed the victory with nine minutes remaining.
Rwanda are in the driving seat to qualify for the group phase of the qualifiers ahead of the second-leg clash next Tuesday evening on home soil in Kagali.
Chad 1-3 Sudan
Sudan cruised to a 3-1 victory over Chad thanks to a hat-trick by Ramadan Alagab on Thursday afternoon at Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat.
Alagab netted twice in the first half and completed his hat-trick in the second stanza, while Ezechiel N’Douasssel scored a consolation goal for Chad from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.
The second-leg is set to take place next week Tuesday in the evening, in Omdurman in Sudan.
