The 2016 CAF African Footballer of the year completed his controversial switch between Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal on deadline day.

And with his whopping £56 million transfer fee he broke three records, becoming Arsenal’s club record signing, the most expensive Premier League transfer in deadline day history and also setting a new record for African players.

Aubameyang broke the previous African record held by Mohamed Salah, who had switched between AS Roma and Liverpool £39 million (R664 million).

The top two are followed by Cedric Bakambu, who completed a £36 million (R613 million) move to Beijing Guoan in January. Some suggest the Chinese side will need to pay an extra £30 million (R511 million) in taxes for the former Villarreal striker and the combined fee would make Bakambu the costliest African in history, but these claims are yet to be confirmed.

Sadio Mane, who has an exclusive interview in this week’s Soccer Laduma, sits in fourth spot, just ahead of Manchester United’s Eric Bailly. Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure also make the list, and you can find all 12 most expensive African players in the gallery above.
