12 Africans Who Could Still Move After Window Closed

The transfer window shut last week, but these 12 Africans – including two former Kaizer Chiefs players and both of Paul Pogba's brothers – are out of contract and could still move to a new club.

Mali winger Bakary Sako, who played for Crystal Palace last season, is the highest-valued African currently without a club. The 30-year-old made 19 appearances for the Premier league side in the 2017/18 campaign – scoring six goals – but is now a free agent after his contract expired.

Similarly, both of Paul Pogba's older brothers – Florentin and Mathias – are without clubs. Both are Guinea internationals, with Florentin last being employed by Turkish side Genclerbirligi. However, his contract was cancelled after he clashed with his own teammates and made only eight appearances in the Turkish Super Lig last season. Mathias, meanwhile, has been without a club since August 2017, when he left Sparta Rotterdam. He made the headlines this past window after being considered too unfit by German third division side KFC Uerdingen.

In addition, former FC Cape Town and Black Aces forward Emmanuel Emenike, who retired from international football with Nigeria in 2015, can also still be snapped up for free. The 31-year-old last represented Olympiacos in Greece, scoring four goals in 10 matches last season.

ABSA Premiership clubs can also still grab up a few free agents in South Africa, with former Chiefs duo Tefu Mashamaite and Siboniso Gaxa, as well as ex-Cape Town City striker Victor Obinna, among players who are still looking for new employers. Mashamaite, who made 120 appearances for Amakhosi, left SuperSport United in July, while Gaxa was on the books of Ajax Cape Town until July. He, too, made more than 120 appearances for the Glamour Boys earlier on his career.
