Congo, Zambia Share Points In Afcon Qualifier

2017 Afcon Qualifier
Result: Congo 1-1 Zambia
Date: 27 March 2016
Venue: Stade Alphonse Massamba-Débat
Congo and Zambia ended all square in their 2017 Afcon Group E qualifier on Sunday evening.
After a positive start from the hosts it was Zambia who threatened in the 12th minute when an accurate cross came in from Collins Mbesuma towards the edge of the box, but the subsequent shot was wide.
At the other end of the pitch Congo continued to press forward and won a free kick 35 yards out. The set-piece was struck with venom, but Kennedy Mweene made a quality save to his left.
The deadlock was broken two minutes into the second half. Zambia failed to deal with a corner kick and saw Jordan Massengo punish them by bundling the ball over the goal line for a 1-0 lead to Congo.
However, Chipolopolo hit back in the 73rd minute to level matters. A frantic scramble in the goalmouth resulted in Winston Kolengo putting the ball in the back of the net.
The result sees Congo take second spot in Group E while Zambia are third, level on points with their opponents.
