How Salah Reacted To Shock Bafana Defeat

Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah was left in tears last night after Bafana Bafana knocked the hosts out of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old had suffered from a cold in the build-up to the Round of 16 clash with South Africa but was fit to play on Saturday evening.

Many expected him to write the headlines, but it was South Africa’s team who shocked the hosts and their superstar in front of 75 000 fans at a fully packed Cairo International Stadium.

As a consequence, Salah already looked very emotional ahead of the final whistle and couldn’t hold back the tears when the game was finished.

BBC journalist John Benneth confirmed Salah looked still very emotional as he walked through the mixed zone, but he did not stop for any interviews.

The Liverpool winger will now be granted three weeks of holidays by his club in order to recharge his batteries ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

According to Liverpool Echo, Salah will miss the Reds’ warm-up games against Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City as well as the club’s USA tour, where they will face Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon, as well as a clash with Napoli back in England.

It is claimed he will return to training ahead of the UEFA Champions League winners’ final friendly against Olympique Lyon on 31 July.

Bafana Bafana, meanwhile, reached the quarter-finals at the continental showpiece for only the sixth time in their history and will face Nigeria in the next round after the Super Eagles knocked out defending champions Cameroon.
