Africa Cup Of Nations
Result: Madagascar 0-3 Tunisia
Date: 11 July 2019
Venue: Al Salam Stadium
Tunisia progressed to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Madagascar at Al-Salam Stadium Cairo on Thursday evening.
With a quarter of an hour gone, Tunisia had the first opportunity of the match. Youssef Msakni played the ball in to the feet of Ferjani Sassi, who swivelled expertly in the box but curled his effort narrowly wide of the left-hand upright.
Madagascar had their first attempt on goal in the 21st minute when Faneva Ima Andriatsima's left footed shot from long range on the left was saved in the centre of the goal by Eagles of Catharge goalkeeper Mouez Hassen.
Tunisia won a free-kick on the edge of the box on the half-hour mark when Pascal Razakanantenaina fouled Youssef Msakni. Wahbi Kazri curled a sumptuous free-kick towards the top right-hand corner, but was denied by a brilliant diving save from Barea goalkeeper Adrien Melvin.
Melvin was forced in to another flying save in the 42nd minute when he had to get down low in a hurry to palm away Ghilane Chaalali's effort that looked destined for the bottom left-hand corner.
Having had a goal marginally ruled out for offside shortly after the break, Tunisia deservedly took the lead in the 51st minute when Sassi's effort deflected off the backside of Razakanantenaina and in to the back of the net.
The Eagles of Catharge doubled their lead on the hour mark when Msakni followed up Kazri's rebounded effort with a good first touch before clinically finishing in to the bottom right-hand corner.
Kazri then came close again from a dead-ball situation in the 67th minute but his free-kick went narrowly wide of the right-hand upright.
Tunisia put the icing on the cake in the final minute of stoppage time. After breaking swiftly on the counter-attack, Kazri timed his pass perfectly for Naim Sliti, who produced a deft chipped finish as the Eagles of Catharge marched onwards in their quest to be crowned champions of the continent.
