Sky Sports reported late on Monday that six people had passed away after being crushed as fans attempted to get into the Olembe Stadium to watch the host nation take on minnows Comoros.

It was claimed by officials working at a nearby hospital that as many as 40 people were hurt in the incident, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) later revealing they were "investigating the situation".

World football's governing body has since sent its condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

Here are all the stadiums that are hosting the tournament in Cameroon:

"FIFA sends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following the tragic incident that took place at Olembe Stadium during the Africa Cup of Nations fixture between Cameroon and Comoros," a statement on the organisation's official website read.

"The thoughts and prayers of the global football community are with the victims, the ones who have been injured in this incident, and all the staff of both CAF and the Cameroonian Football Association at this difficult moment."

It has since been reported that eight people died in the stampede, according to Agence France-Presse.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has since said the quarter-final that was set to be hosted at the Olembe Stadium will be moved due to Monday's ordeal.
