Official: Ghana Suffer Shock Afcon Elimination

Group C
Ghana 2-3 Comoros

Ghana finished bottom of Group C after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Comoros on Tuesday night.

Comoros took a surprise lead after just four minutes when El Fardou Mohamed Ben Nabouhane fired past Wollacott.

It got worse for the Black Stars after 25 minutes when captain Andre Ayew was shown a straight red card after the referee consulted with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) monitor.

Ahmed Mogni doubled Comoros' lead in the 61st minute, before the Black Stars reduced the deficit three minutes later through Richmond Boakye.

Alexander Djiku restored parity for the ten men of Ghana with 13 minutes left on the clock, but Comoros had the final say when Mogni completed his brace in the 85th minute to seal maximum points.

Gabon 2-2 Morocco

Gabon joined Morocco in the round of 16 after playing to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday.

Gabon were once again without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who returned to his club Arsenal to get further tests after he got "cardiac lesions" following his recovery from Covid-19.

Aubameyang's absence did not seem affect the Gabonese, who took the lead in the 21st minute through Jim Allevinah's second goal of the tournament.

The Moroccans had to wait until the 76th minute to get back on level terms when Sofiane Boufal converted a penalty.

Gabon restored their lead in the 81st minute via a Nayef Aguerd own goal, but Achraf Hakimi ensured the spoils were shared after equalising with an impressive free-kick in the 84th minute.

Group B
Zimbabwe 2-1 Guinea

Zimbabwe finished bottom of Group B despite securing a 2-1 win over Guinea, who secured second spot on Tuesday evening.

Kudakwashe Mahachi was restored to the Warriors' line-up, while Onismor Bhasera dropped to the bench with Bruce Kangwa getting a start at left-back.

With the Warriors needed a big win, the deadlock was broken in the 26th minute courtesy of a finish from Knowledge Musona's first goal of the tournament.

The lead was doubled just before the halftime break, with Mahachi making his return to the line-up with a goal, but Naby Keita pulled a goal back for Guinea four minutes after the break.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Guinea finished in second spot after Malawi failed to beat Senegal in the other group game.

Malawi 0-0 Senegal

Malawi finished third in Group B after playing to a goalless draw against group winners Senegal on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea's Edouard Mendy, Kalid Koulibaly and Idrissa Gueye made their first starts of the tournament after missing the first two games with Covid-19.

Gabadinho Mhango kept his spot in the Malawi line-up after bagging a brace against Zimbabwe over the weekend, while Richard Mbulu was only named on the bench.

The Flames, however, could find a way past the Lions of Teranga's defence and finish in third spot, although they could be one of the four best third-place finishers with four points.
