Senegal 3-1 Benin
Sadio Mane became Senegal's all-time leading scorer after bagging a hat-trick in the side's 3-1 win over Benin.
The Liverpol star opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 12 minutes, before going to double his lead 10 minutes later with a close-range finish.
With those three goals, Mane has now passed Hanri Camara to become the nation's top scorer with 32 goals.
Algeria 2-0 Uganda
Algeria secured a 2-0 win over Uganda in their Group F opener at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 on Saturday night.
Aïssa Mandi opened the scoring for the 2019 champions in the 28th minute, while Farouk Miya squandered a chance to equalise in the 33rd minute after missing a penalty.
Youcef Belaili made sure of the win for the home side with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Mali 4-0 Congo
Mali proved too strong for Congo after romping to a 4-0 triumph in their Group G opener in Bamako.
All four goals came in the first half as El Bilal contributed with a brace, while Mohamed Camara and Kalifa Coulibaly also found the back of the net for the home side.
Mauritania 3-0 Sudan
Mauritania got off to a good start in Group I after thrashing Sudan 3-0 at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boidiya.
Aboubakar Kamara bagged a brace to put the home side two goals ahead in the first half.
Abdallahi Mahmoud wrapped up the scoring for Mauritania in the 77th minute.
Namibia 1-1 Burundi
Namibia failed to secure maximum points in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier after drawing 1-1 with Burundi at the FNB Stadium.
Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Shalulile carried his domestic form over to the international stage after opening the scoring for the Namibians after just 10 minutes.
Namibia were minutes away from victory until Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana popped up with the equaliser for Burundi in the 88th minute.
That would also Bimenyimana's final act as he was shown a second yellow a minute later, as the encounter ended all square.
Niger 1-1 Tanzania
Niger and Tanzania could not be separated at the Stade de l'Amitié after playing to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.
George Mpole got the visitors off to a good start after opening the scoring after just one minute into the first half.
Niger back on level terms in the 26th minute thanks to a strike from Daniel Sosah, which ultimately proved to be the final goal of the game.
Gambia 1-0 South Sudan
Gambia made a winning start in Group G after defeating South Sudan 1-0 at the Stade Lat Dior.
Abdoulie Jallow's goal on the stroke of halftime was enough to secure maximum points for the home side, who reached the quarter-finals at last year Afcon.
Gambia will now lock horns with Congo on Wednesday while Sudan host Mali the next day.
