Bayern Star Guides Chile Past Brave Cameroon

FIFA Confederations Cup Report: Cameroon v Chile 18 June 2017

By SL International - Jun 18, 2017 09:53 PM

FIFA Confederations Cup

Result: Cameroon 0-2 Chile

Date: 18 June 2017

Venue: Otkrytiye Arena

Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas struck late in the second half to earn Chile a 2-0 win over African champions, Cameroon in their FIFA Confederations Cup opening clash.

Chile were without first choice goalkeeper, Claudio Bravio, while Alexis Sanchez started on the bench.

La Roja started like a house on fire as Vargas rattled the upright before Fabrice Ondoa denied Fuenzalida inside the opening five minutes.

Cameroon carved out their first chance after 11 minutes as Vincent Aboubakar forced Herrera into a good save from close range, following a swift counter attack.

Chile continued to dominate possession as they looked for an opener, but Ondoa was at his best in the 25th minute to keep out Puch's low effort from distance.

La Roja squandered another golden chance in the 40th minute when Vargas was played through on goal, however the striker blazed horribly over the crossbar.

Chile had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of halftime, however the Video Assistant Referee ruled that Vargas was offside.

After a quiet opening to the half, Juan Antonio Pizzi introduced Arsenal star Sanchez in the 57th minute as they pushed for an opening goal.

Benjamin Moukandjo went close to breaking the deadlock for Cameroon in the 66th minute but his curling free-kick sailed inches wide of the upright.

La Roja eventually broke the deadlock in the 80th minute when Vidal rose above his marker to head home Sanchez's cross from the left, 0-1.

Chile sealed the win in stoppage time, as Vargas got on the score-sheet with a finish from close range after Sanchez had been denied, 0-2.

SundayWorld Report: Kaizer Chiefs paying their young goalkeeper R5000 slave wages Bruce Bvuma, who turned 22 last month, does not own a car or cellphone and lives with his parents in Tshiawelo, Soweto. The player apparently uses taxis to fetch him from his home to the team's training sessions in Naturena. He sometimes borrows a car from his football agent DJ Cleo to run his errands. Bruce Bvuma has apparently been given a raw deal at Kaizer Chiefs after reports emerged he earns R5k a month. Bvuma joined the soccer club in March and has had to make do with the paltry salary which barely covers his transport costs and doesn’t allow him to have a cellphone or move into his own place. According to Sunday World, Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs manager has declined to comment. “Whether you are telling the truth or not I cannot comment because I don’t talk about players contracts in the media.” DJ Cleo, who manages Bvuma said he would not be drawn into discussing his client’s salary as it was disrespectful. Bvuma’s contract details how he will earn R8k from August, then R10k from August 2018 and R12k in 2019 and at the end of his contract this will increase to R15k per month. A source told Sunday World, Bvuma was keen on the exposure of playing for a big team and signed the contract with his eyes closed. “These are the things that kill our players because the public is expecting a player at this level and from such a club to be earning well. When he can’t meet those public expectations, then he gets psychologically disturbed and will not flourish as a player,” the source said. SA Football Players Union spokesperson Vusi Ntimane said the PSL was to blame for soccer players being exploited as they had not signed a minimum wage deal.

Cameroon never came to the party they sat too deep from the start. I alwways wonder what is hoped to be achieved when a team decides to defend from on set and they were too slow to counter the Chileans. They gave them too much respect.
