World Champions Germany began their FIFA Confederations Cup on a high, as they claimed a 3-2 win over Australia in an entertaining encounter.
The Germans broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Lars Stindl fired home a fine first-time finish after getting on the end of Julian Brandt's cross.
Germany continued to dominated and could have extended their lead through Sandro Wagner in the 23rd minute, but the striker dragged his effort wide of the upright.
Australia, on the other hand, were finding it tough to get possession of the Germans in the opening 30 minutes, which led to a lack of chances.
The Socceroos did level matters against the run of play in the 41st minute courtesy of a close range effort from Tom Rogic.
However, Germany were awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime when Leon Goretzka was brought down. Julian Draxler stepped up and converted from the spot.
The World Champions grabbed a third goal three minutes into the second half as Goretzka got on the end of Joshua Kimmich's cross and sent a fine finish past goalkeeper, Matthew Ryan, 1-3.
Australia managed to pull another goal back in the 56th minute as Mooy's free-kick deflected into the path of Tomi Juric, who fired home with ease.
Substitute Timo Werner nearly restored their two-goal lead in the 75th minute but his close range effort rattled off the woodwork.
Australia nearly snatched an equaliser in the 81st minute but goalkeeper, Bernd Leno rushed off his line to deny Juric.
The Aussies continued to push and also threw on Tim Cahill, but Joechim Low' charges managed to see out the closing stages of the second to claim three points
