Reports: FC Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain Ref Insulted PSG Stars
The referee who was in charge of FC Barcelona's stunning 6-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain last week reportedly insulted the French club's stars when they protested some of his controversial decisions.
The Catalan giants overturned a 4-0 first leg deficit to become the first side in UEFA Champions League history to come back from a four-goal defeat and still advance to the next round.
However, there were some controversial calls in the game, with referee Deniz Aytekin awarding Barcelona two penalties.
"You cannot help but think that the result of this match could have been different with clairvoyant refereeing, and more as the competition progresses, there is a lot at stake and the referees need to know it, there is no room for nervousness or lack of lucidity," PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said, as quoted by French publication Le Parisien.
"Everyone saw the penalty to Di Maria that would have put us 3-2 up. Not to mention the penalty on Suarez."
According to a report in the same publication, match official Aytekin treated the PSG players in a derogatory manner as they became more and more upset with his decisions during the encounter.
The referee is said to have used insults such as "f*** you", as claimed by the French publication, which is reportedly close to many PSG players.
Meanwhile, more than 200 000 fans worldwide have signed a petition for the game to be replayed due to the poor officiating.
