Result: Ajax CT 1-2 AmaZulu
Date: 1 September 2013
Venue: Cape Town Stadium
Ajax Cape Town suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to AmaZulu at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.
The game got off to the worst possible start for the Urban Warriors with Cecil Lolo scoring an own goal before a strike from Carlington Nyadombo extended AmaZulu’s advantage.
Nathan Paulse pulled a goal back late in the day but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for the hosts.
Franklin Cale had the first chance of the day four minutes in but his long-range strike was dealt with. There was nothing they could do when Lolo turned the ball past his own goalkeeper soon after though. Aiden Jenniker tried to clear and his header bounced back off Lolo.
Ajax were struggling to get back into the game and Awal Issa produced a poor strike before Toriq Losper was denied Tapuwa Kapini.
Sean Roberts did well to keep out Ayanda Dlamini's shot through the legs of Dominic Isaacs before Ajax was dealt a blow when Losper had to come off to be replaced Keagan Dollie with injury.
Nkosinathi Mthiyane then set up the second for AmaZulu just after the break when Ajax failed to clear his corner and Nyadombo tapped in at the far post.
Usuthu had the better of play in the second period but they failed to kill of their opponents. Ajax did manage to pull one back through Paulse's diving header, but it was too late for them to stage a comeback.
