Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Tshilo has signed for Wits. Tshilo has been in search of a new club since he was deemed surplus to requirements at the Brazilians, and has now found a new home with the Braamfontein-based outfit.
He was on trial at Moroka Swallows when The Students came knocking for his services, with the club looking to fill the gap in central defence left by Mbulelo Mabizela, who is no longer in the team’s plans.
Tshilo’s agent, Joseph Cotty, confirmed with the Siya crew that the former Jomo Cosmos player is set to finish the season playing under Clive Barker at Wits.
“That’s correct. He has signed for Wits. He was training with Swallows and I called the club and told them that Wits said they don’t need the player for a trial. Wits said they’ve got great respect for the player.
“I want to commend the current boss of Wits, Jose Ferreira. Jose knows the player. He didn’t even give the player a trial. He knows that he is a good player with discipline. He has never been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. He was just unfortunate at Sundowns because the coach had his own ideas,” said Cotty.
Tshilo has signed a six-month long deal with The Students, with an option to renew.
