Still No Signature On Castro’s New Sundowns Deal

Leonardo Castro is yet to put his signature on the new and improved deal offered to him by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns offered the Colombian a new contract last year, which would have seen his stay extended until, at least, 2020, had he signed.

However, nothing has changed since the Siya crew’s latest report on the matter in November, 2016, where it was revealed that the player has still not signed the contract, as he decided to put it on hold in order to ensure that his family were able to adapt to the Mzansi lifestyle.

It was revealed to Soccer Laduma last year in November that the player had attracted interest from abroad, while it was also confirmed that Castro’s existing deal is set to expire at the end of June 2018.

“A player like Castro is probably the target for many clubs, but at the moment we’ve only had offers from Egypt and Albania. Those offers were turned down by Mamelodi Sundowns, as Leo still has one more year with the club and finishes his contract in June 2018,” the player’s representative, Joao Betancourt, told the Siya crew last year.

In addition, he confirmed the new offer last year. At the time, he said, “He also had an improved offer from Sundowns to extend his contract until 2020 but Castro decided to put it on hold until he can see if his family can adapt to the country.”

However, there is still no signature on the new and improved contract, which could be an indication that the player is still unsure about his future at Sundowns.

As it stands, should Castro not sign the new contract, the player will be able to negotiate a pre-contract elsewhere in January next year and potentially leave on a free at the end of his existing deal in June 2018.
