After over five years out of professional football, Steve Lekoelea made a return to the game with Orange Vaal Professionals in the ABC Motsepe League.
The former Orlando Pirates player has been out of the game for some time, following a stint with Mbabane Highlanders of Swaziland in 2011.
It was revealed by the Siya crew that another former Pirates player, Benedict Vilakazi, is now the coach of the Tembisa-based third tier outfit.
The club’s Brand Manager, Lerato Majoro, has explained to the Siya crew about how they have convinced Lekoelea to make a return to the game.
“The chairman of the club had a one on one meeting with Steve Lekoelea about coming back to football. In his response, Steve asked to be given time to train with the team. He asked for time to work on his body. That’s why today I am telling you that Lekoelea is back. Yho, my friend, if you can have time to come to our training sessions and watch, you can see how well he is performing. He is a fully registered player with us and has a valid player’s card. Steve is back and doing well for our team. I wish you can watch him in action,” said Majoro.
At 37, 'Chippa' is expected to use his experience to guide the youngsters in the team on playing professional football. In other news on former PSL players reviving their careers with local clubs, Thembinkosi Fanteni has joined Steenberg United in the ABC Motsepe League.
