The academy of former South African U20 midfielder, Bally Smart, recently handed a shock defeat to their Platinum Stars counterparts in the Polokwane Local Football Association league.
Polokwane United, as Smart’s academy are known, played out four games against their Bafokeng-based opponents at Dikwena’s state of the art facilities in Rustenburg, winning two, drawing one and losing one.
The results for the four games:
Under 14s: Platinum Stars 3-2 Polokwane United
Under 16s: Platinum Stars 1-3 Polokwane United
Under 18s: Platinum Stars 1-3 Polokwane United
Senior Academy Team: Platinum Stars 1-1 Polokwane United
In a statement from the academy, their director, Smart, said, “I think the coach and his teams did not expect to be outshined as they were by an unknown, lowly academy from Limpopo. They said they had not heard of us but were receptive and hospitable not expecting to be thrashed of course.”
Smart is currently in between clubs as he recovers from a hamstring injury and will be looking to earn himself a new contract once he is fully fit.
