Kaizer Chiefs will host Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday evening at FNB Stadium.
On the previous five occasions the teams have faced one another, the games have generally been tight affairs. There has been three draws and a win-a-piece for both teams in the last five matches played.
Nonetheless, the Glamour Boys have home ground advantage and look to be favourites in front of their passionate supporters.
However, there is general perception within the football fraternity that when the so-called smaller teams play against the so-called bigger teams, they treat the games like finals. This, however, isn’t a view shared by experienced Team of Choice midfielder, Dillon Sheppard.
In anticipation of the weekend’s game, Sheppard says that Chiefs have one of the best squads in the league.
He told the Siya crew ahead of the match, “I don’t think it’s true that teams raise their game against them. I think it’s an excuse, you know.”
“At the end of the day they spend millions of rand on players there. You'll find half of Bafana Bafana is in their team!”

He added, “They’ve got no excuse to say it’s a final every week. They (Chiefs players) are at the biggest club in the country, they should be playing like it’s the biggest club.”
