Bafana Bafana are set to take on Swaziland in a friendly international at the National Stadium in Mbabane tonight. A few days later they will lock horns with Spain in another friendly match to take place at FNB Stadium.
Gordon Igesund has called up two largely different squads for both matches as he looks to put together his best combinations ahead of the African Nations Championship in January and February next year. Bafana have been drawn in a tough group against the likes of Mozambique, Nigeria and Mali in Group A of that competition.
Nonetheless, experienced Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana international, Siphiwe Tshabalala, is not looking too far ahead. Instead the 29-year-old is focusing on preparations for the Swaziland encounter.
'Shabba' told the club's official website, “It is a great feeling to be in the squad. There are a lot of youngsters in the squad now. I think it is a step in the right direction and will benefit the country in the long run. I am helping and guiding the younger guys by giving them advise and motivation. They all deserve to be here as they have done well in their clubs and in the national team. It is hot in Swaziland. We had our first training on Wednesday at 18:30 and trained again on Thursday at 11:00. We will be playing on Astroturf. Even though we played Swaziland before, this time they will be a closed book.”
The action gets underway tonight from 20h30.
