Former Shooting Stars Striker and CHAN 2014 bronze medallist, Gbolahan Salami will play his first game for Warri Wolves in the League game against El-Kanemi on Thursday according to news coming out of the camp of the CAF confederations cup campaigners.
Salami who joined Warri Wolves after registration for the CAF Confederations cup has been completed will be among a selected group of players who will play the game to allow players registered for the CAF challenge recover adequately from the exhaustion of their weekend game and preparation for their next round tie against CA Bizertin of Tunisia.
In the Past, Salami the self-acclaimed Nigeria Balotelli has played for Sunshine Stars, Enyimba and had a two time spell at his hometown club Shooting Stars and has featured for all arms of the Nigeria Youth teams barred the Under-17.
Daniel Akpeyi who joined from Heartland FC of Owerri is also expected to debut for the team.
For El-Kanemi Warriors the team based in the trouble militant strong hold of North East Nigeria, it will be a baptism of fire for new coach Salisu Yusuf lead Kano Pillars to the league crown in 2009 before helping Enyimba to a second place finish last season and Federation cup glory before replacing Zachary Baraje who took over from him at Enyimba.
Due to the trouble in Maiduguri, the team had their preseason camp in Cotonou, the capital of Benin Republic
As part of their preparation for this season, they released six players from their team of last season and recruited nine players to beef up their team, they finished fourth last season unlike Warri Wolves who finished 15th.
