Update On Downs v Pirates Violence

The matter involving Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and their supporters in February is not being swept under the rug, as the powers that be, search for justice.
There were horrible scenes at Loftus Versfeld Stadium earlier this year when things turned ugly as Masandawana hit the Buccaneers for six in a 6-0 victory, with fans clashing on and off the field prior to the final whistle.
Both sides were charged by the Premier Soccer League in March, however, up until now, there has been no judgement passed by the Disciplinary Committee.
Pirates were charged with contravening Rule 54 of the National Soccer League rules and for their fans misconduct, while Sundowns were charged with the failure to provide adequate security at the venue.
The Siya crew spoke to PSL spokesperson, Luxolo September, who gave an update on the process, saying, “The issue is currently sitting with the DC. It’s not being whisked away. The matter has been postponed twice because some of the parties are requesting more information and also because of the availability of council.
“In the interest of justice it is important that all the sides are happy with the process, and if we want justice then we must apply fairness and lawfulness.
“As far as I know, the prosecutor is waiting for the availability of one of the legal councils.”
The PSL will be hoping to bring an end to the case as soon as possible, however, it remains to be seen how long the wait for legal council’s availability will take.
