Middendorp Responds To Pitso’s Referees Statements

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp was left no choice but to finally respond to his counterparts Pitso Mosimane’s persistent remarks that Amakhosi are getting a helping hand from match officials this season.

The Mamelodi Sundowns coach was yesterday adamant that Chiefs’ first goal – scored by Samir Nurkovic, who went on to add a second later – in their 2-0 win at Loftus Versfeld Stadium when the two sides met was offside.

“Really guys, are we going to discuss whether it is a penalty or not? Are we talking about the situation where there could have been a hand? What the hell are we doing? Let it go,” said Middendorp during his press conference after the game.

In the build up to their match, Mosimane has insisted that Amakhosi are “benefitting” from the errors of referees and on Sunday called Middendorp “the luckiest coach” in the top flight, and the Chiefs mentor was naturally asked to respond.

“Tomorrow it is your advantage, today it is my advantage. I have seen on Wednesday (when Sundowns faced Highlands Park) a situation where I think there should have been a penalty, should we discuss each and every action? The referee indicated it was a goal and that’s it. We are addressing this to the wrong people. Referees are administrators and teachers and if you want a better response – address it to the PSL and SAFA. Don’t follow these guys who repeat it again and again,” the Chiefs coach said.
