Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach, Manqoba Mngqithi believes that Cape Town City did not give his side much trouble when coming up against them in their three previous encounters despite the results favouring the Citizens.
The Brazilians claimed their first win over City on Friday, February 02, having suffered defeat three times to the Mother City-based club since their inaugural season.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, Mngqithi believed that the Citizens gave their all on the night, although were unable to get a favourable result, this contrary to the previous times the two sides locked horns.
“Football is such a strange game because if you look at the intensity that they put today in their game, it is a game where they could have had something and we would not complain,” Mngqithi explained.
“But, in the games that we lost, all three of them are the games that we dominated fully, created more scoring opportunities, but we were basically caught on counter-attacks, Manyama, Ngoma, those moments. The last match it was Ngoma and (Nana). So it is surprising that in the game where they really put a lot to try and win the match, it is a game, which they’ve lost.
“Because all the other three games, I honestly believe in as much one would say that they are a hoodoo team, a hoodoo team is a team that will always give you trouble in terms of play and end up winning the match, but they have never really given us trouble in terms of the match,” he added.
