Kaizer Chiefs’ physio, Dave Milner, says Bernard Parker, Itumeleng Khune, Tsepo Masilela and Siphiwe Tshabalala had to be withdrawn from Bafana Bafana.
All four players were originally named in Gordon Igesund’s national team squad for the tour of Australasia, but pulled out before the trip due to an array of injuries.
Bafana went on to draw 1-1 with Australia and will play New Zealand on Friday morning.
While some have criticised the players for withdrawing, Milner says that it was a decision that had to be made.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, he said, "We had to withdraw four of our players from the Bafana Bafana squad due to various injuries. Some of these had been carried for the last couple of matches and the players really needed the time to recover if we expect to get the most out of them for club and country.”
Chiefs will return to training on the 23rd of June as they look to prepare for next season’s PSL campaign.
