Former Senegalese international, El Hadji Diouf, says Percy Tau shouldn’t be in South Africa, and that he’s got more talent than two of Liverpool’s biggest stars.
Diouf visited SAFA House on Monday as part of the Moroccan 2026 FIFA World Cup bid representatives, and spoke highly of the Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, claiming that he has more talent than both Sadio Mané and red hot attacker, Mo Salah, who have scored 57 goals between them so far this season.
Tau has been in great form for Masandawana this season, especially in recent months, and has played a vital role in making sure that Pitso Mosimane’s side remain on top of the Absa Premiership table going into the final few games. His performances, and 13 goals, have seemingly not gone unnoticed.
Diouf, who has a long rivalry with Liverpool and once called Reds legend, Steven Gerrard ‘jealous’ and ‘egotistical’, saying that ‘he doesn't care about anyone else’.
According to SAFA’s official website, regarding Tau, the 37-year-old said, “I spoke to Percy Tau and asked him what he was still doing in the PSL. The boy is good to play for any team in the world including Real Madrid or any of England’s top side. The boy is quality… Tau has no reason to still be playing in South Africa. He is more talented than Sadio Mane or even Mo Salah.”
He also said, “South African players play the best football but need that international experience one only gets by playing in big European leagues. I always ask myself why there is no South African playing either in England or Spain yet the country has the most talented players. They are too comfortable playing at home; which is wrong.”
Do you think Tau is more talented than Mané and Salah?
