Orlando Pirates defender, Patrick Phungwayo, has revealed that he was not worried about his contract saga at the beginning of the year.
The 27-year-old was expected to sign a new deal with the Buccaneers in the January transfer window however negotiations could not be wrapped up before the end of the transfer window deadline.
Due to the delay, there was widespread speculation that Mamelodi Sundowns were keen on the player, with his contract expiring in June of this year. However, Bucs managed to persuade 'Boka' to stay and the player has indicated that he had no intentions of leaving.
“No, it was not really worrying for me because I knew that I wanted to stay at Pirates. The management had also shown me that they wanted me to stay at the team.”
“Everything happened within time. I am happy that I renewed my contract because everyone wants to play for a team like Pirates. I am happy that I am still here to be part of the team’s history,” Phungwayo told Soccer Laduma.
