Orlando Pirates midfield maestro, Oupa ‘Ace’ Manyisa, has been involved in numerous tournaments for both Bafana Bafana and Bucs and hasn’t been afforded a break in two years.
The Buccaneers have just returned from their trip in Tunisia where they won 1-0 in their Group B CAF Confederation Cup tie against CS Sfaxien. Manyisa played the full 90 minutes in that game and his schedule doesn’t look to be letting up any time soon.
Barring injury he will be involved in the CBL Cup clash against Kaizer Chiefs this coming weekend and three days later Pirates play Ajax Cape Town in the quarter-final of the MTN8.
The Buccaneers' schedule does not ease up after that as their next encounter is their opening league fixture against SuperSport United on August 11.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Ace admitted that he is long overdue a break but is not making any excuses and is confident he can manage the workload.
“I haven’t had a break for two years. I’ve been playing Champions League games, AFCONs, CHANs and league games. It’s not about the fatigue though – you have to keep your body fit and also get some rest. There’s no danger of burn-out because football is what I love,” Ace said.
Manyisa has the most votes of any outfield player for the Carling Black Label Cup and will be looking to lead his team to victory over Chiefs in this weekend’s Soweto derby and claim the bragging rights.
