The Buccaneers have been scheduled to host Ea Lla Koto in an Absa Premiership game at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening. Matlaba and Makola joined Bucs directly from the Bethlehem outfit, when they earned their big moves to Gauteng.
The two players seem to still have an understanding of how their former team operates, as confirmed in the interview they have done with the club’s official website.
Orlando Pirates will be locking horns against Free State Stars over the weekend. We caught up with former Ea Lla Koto players Thabo Matlaba and Mpho Makola who form an integral part of the Buccaneers attacking and defensive prowess evidenced by the teams run of good form of late.
Having lost away to Free State Stars?
The duo is in agreement that Pirates created a number of chances in the away leg but failed to convert those into goals and as a result we lost that encounter. However this is a new fixture to be played at home and although it won’t be easy, the two are confident that the Buccaneers will emerge victorious come Saturday night.
Getting three points on Saturday?
Thabo Matlaba (TM): “We have spoken as players and we have taken a resolution to win all our matches at the Orlando Stadium. We want to reach our objective of finishing in the 3rd or 4th position on the log standings and we cannot do that by playing for draws.”
Mpho Makola (MM): “The fact is they are one point behind us and we simply have to get the job done in order to put some distance between us and them which makes this encounter a six pointer. We have to win this match in order to climb up the ladder so there will be no mercy for Stars at Orlando”.
Stars approach to the game?
TM: “Look they have a new Coach and they have been getting good results because their players are obviously looking to impress, however we are not fazed by that. I think they will look to defend and come away with a point, which will increase their tally against Pirates to four points this season and we cannot allow that.
Pirates approach to the game?
MM: “We will collectively do our best to win the match. We are playing at home and in front of our supporters therefore we will use that to our advantage. Orlando has a big pitch which we are familiar with, we will simply use the length and breadth of the pitch as well as the skill and pace of our players to attack them. We have a plan which will assist us in exploiting their defensive approach and help us get that desired result which is a win against Free State Stars”.
