In a shock upset Golden Arrows beat Platinum Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday afternoon, but the KZN outfit have goalkeeper Siya Mngoma to thank for the victory.
Making his debut for Arrows, Mngoma, was superb between the posts, making a number of crucial saves to ensure his side walked away victorious and was rightly named ‘Man of the Match’ for his efforts.
Speaking after the game Mngoma thanked his goalkeeper coach for his support and said he was just happy to get a run out after sitting on the bench all season.
“First of all I have been training very hard and I have been encouraged by my goalkeeper coach. I can’t believe I won the ‘Man of the Match’, especially in my first match,” said Mngoma.
“Last season when I played, I played like 30 games for Tuks, and it has been tough coming here and sitting on the bench, but I am happy that I have come in and done well. I have worked very, very hard.”
The result saw Arrows move six points clear of the relegation zone, ensuring their safety in the top flight for next season, and Mngoma was thankful for that.
“It has been very tough down there and now at least we can breathe, we know we have one game left and we are in the comfort zone,” concluded the goalkeeper.
