With the 2013/14 PSL season starting this evening, former Orlando Pirates fan favourite Mark Mayambela is yet to secure a new club.
Mayambela was released by Pirates at the end of last season, after making only one substitute appearance for the Buccaneers. The talented Khayelitsha-born midfielder then trained with Moroka Swallows in the hope of earning himself a deal with the Birds, but Swallows decided against signing him.
Indications are that Mayambela and Swallows could not agree on personal terms, which is why the Birds opted not to sign him. Sources have indicated that it was the same with Mpumalanga Black Aces, who were linked with the player, after failing to agree on personal terms.
In Soccer-Laduma’s issue number 831, the crew reported that the player’s agent, Tim Sukazi, had been speaking to Aces on a potential move to the club, although the player’s demands were reportedly not in line with what the club was offering, which put an end to the negotiations without seeing a deal materialise.
